viewer's florida weekend? wusa 9 at 11 starts now. >> as the storms roll through, many of you turned to us on social media and we loved it. you sent us these photos, including these beauties right here. the storm had pockets of hail in it. they were intense. this was from silver spring tweeted our way from thomas. andrea tweeted us this picture of her back deck. the sun returned and so did this double rainbow. yes, there really are two. this photo is from beltsville and there's still some cleanup to do, though. >> reporter: one neighbor told me the hail was the size of her fist. it made

through saturday night and sunday. we have good news for sunday. not so good news for the start of the week. >> we were just talking about the storm. imagine being in it nine stories up holding a baby eagle. that happened tonight. >> this job is not for you if you're afraid of heights. you've seen this baby eagle before on the eagle cams. he was born march 29. his rescuer is also famous thanks to two big climbs and one touching moment. matthew morris couldn't see much and neither could who he was helping. this newborn eagle was stuck. thursday night viewers of the web cam noticed the right leg was jammed. >> i think the eaglet was uncomfortable being in that position for hours. >> reporter: morris has a farm and he knows small animals but he's never handled a bird of prey. >> it was a

him. i think in his little eagle soul he was probably appreciative. >> reporter: so was the american eagle foundation. it set up the web cam and others like it across the country. the founder has been saving eagles for 30 years and could not bear to see nature take its course. >> if you have the power in your hands to help sometimes you have to step forward and help. >> reporter: the u.s. fish and wildlife service signed off on the rescue. the baltimore zoo signed off on his health. friday evening morris scaled the tree again to make the dropoff. >> i was on my knees and let him out of the bag and he kind of got in close to his siblings and it seemed natural and i gave him a good wish. >> reporter: morris said it was the dad in him who made him do that. people are calling him a hero but this was a

school and vanished. this is 16-year-old jasmine dunn. she arrived at school but never made it to class. investigators believe she left on her own. she was wearing jeans and a black and gray hoody. detective collison was 28 years old when he was shot and killed last year. tonight his memory is alive and well. from our area to the suburbs of philadelphia. teams of law enforcement officers from across the region are facing off in a basketball tournament that benefits fallen first responders. as they honored his memory on the court, his parents sat down with us to help tell his story to john henry. the story you'll only see here. >> reporter: james and sheila collison will never forget the impact their son had

who had high praise. >> whoever that guy is on that boat is a hero. that is unbelievable. >> a father and son were on the boat before it exploded. they were thrown into the water. the son is being treated for burns. army specialist jeremy tomlin died doing what he loved. so says a woman who would know, his mom. he was killed monday when his helicopter crashed on a golf course in maryland. tomlin's family and friends came to share stories, shed tears and say good-bye. his mother said jeremy had a fear of heights but that fell away when he was in a chopper. he loved to fly, she said. he's soring now. president trump is promising some big tax breaks for individuals and businesses. that promise was a little thin on details today. here's what he

tonight minneapolis is lit up in purple honoring, of course, the late musical genius known as prince. he died one year ago today and his fans are gathering at paz lee park for a first cam look. they're planning an all night block party starting tomorrow. the autopsy report released says he died of an overdose of opioid overdose. virginia will get nearly $10 million back from the federal government to fight this issue. that money is coming from a billion dollar fund that president obama created to help states tackle the growing epidemic. 91 americans die every day from these kind of overdoses. in 2013 medical providers wrote a quarter of a billion prescriptions for opioid. think about that. that's enough for every american
